The Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering celebrates its 25th year, August
9-11, in Prescott. The gathering, the oldest in Arizona, received the prestigious 2012 Arizona Governor's Arts Award (see our earlier news article about that award here). The event is recognized as an official Arizona Centennial Event.

This art on this year's gathering poster is by acclaimed Western artist Fred Fellows of Sonoita, Arizona, from his painting, "Life in the Fast Lane." The art serves as the gathering's theme, which is "Time Flies." Each year, poets are invited to write poems inspired by the poster image and those works are presented at the event.

Fred Fellows is the longest active member of the Cowboy Artists of America. Their web site tells, "Fred started out as a saddlemaker for Butler Saddlery in Paramount, California, and went on to be a cowboy on the Jamison Ranch at Monolith, California, and then an art director for Northrup Aircraft. This all led to an interesting blend of art and the West, and a lifetime of painting and sculpting."

Fred Fellows' biography at his web site notes that his paintings "...have been featured on the cover of 17 issues of Western Horseman Magazine as well as articles in Arizona Highways, Newsweek, Southwest Art, Art of the Rockies and Western Art Collector.

His paintings and sculptures are in the permanent collections of many museums, including The Buffalo Bill Historical Center, the Gilcrease Museum, the Phoenix Art Museum, the Booth Museum of Western Art, and the Desert Caballeros Museum. Find much more about Fred Fellows at his web site, www.fellowsstudios.com.

Poets and musicians scheduled to appear at the 25th annual Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering include Don Edwards, Deanna McCall, Gail Steiger, Gary and Jean Prescott, Joel Nelson, Ken Cook, Jay Snider, Rod Taylor
,
Elizabeth Ebert, Chris Isaacs, Kay Kelly Nowell, Sally Bates, Carole Jarvis, Bud Strom, Leon Flick, Randy and Hannah Huston, Tom Sharpe, and many, many others.
