We are pleased and honored to have a Silent Auction for a pair of handcrafted Pete Bennett vintage-style spurs and three books written by and edited by poet and writer Virginia Bennett.

Bidding is now closed.

Proceeds from the Silent Auction benefit the Center for Western and Cowboy Poetry, which sponsors CowboyPoetry.com, Cowboy Poetry Week, the Rural Library Project, and all of our activities.

Find information about bidding below.

Pete Bennett, multi-generational cowboy, some-time poet, and retired ranch manager donated these vintage-style spurs handcrafted in his shop in Goldendale, Washington. The spurs are described by Pete as "working cowboy spurs, ready to strap on and chase some cows or head down the trail. They are handmade in every way, perfectly balanced, 3" inside width between the bands and they will fit a man-sized boot. Accented with a brass, hand-engraved Thunderbird, this pair of spurs are built to last a lifetime and beyond."

Pete's poetry is included in Cowboy Poetry: The Reunion (Gibbs-Smith, 2004); In The Company of Horses (Timberline Press, 2004); and also featured in Dry Crik Review and Legacy of the Land (Maverick Publications, 1993).

The above photo of Pete's father, Texas cowboy Orville Bennett, is the cover image for the 2007 edition of The BAR-D Roundup: Volume Two (2007).

Cowgirl, horsewoman, poet, writer and editor Virginia Bennett donated signed first editions of her most recent collection, In The Company of Horses, and signed first editions of two important anthologies that she edited, Cowboy Poetry: The Reunion and Cowgirl Poetry, One Hundred Years of Ridin' and Rhymin'.

Virginia Bennett has performed cowboy poetry since 1988, regularly featured at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, Virginia has also shared her work at the Smithsonian Institute, and has been featured many times on PBS  and NPR specials. She worked on Western ranches starting in 1971, alongside her ranch manager husband, Pete. She started colts for the public for 20 years,  has shown hunter/jumpers, driven draft teams for a living, and drawn cowboy wages on big outfits. She continues to write for many publications as well as reciting original, traditional verse.

Pete and Virginia Bennett live in Goldendale, Washington, where Pete has set up his custom-spur business. They can be reached by email.

The Bennetts add, "We strongly believe in the merit of CowboyPoetry.com, the widespread awareness of quality verse that this site has generated to the world, and we feel that this is THE place to go on the web for information on all things cowboy poetry! Supporting this site when we are able is just our way of giving back to a venue that has been of great worth to us and all fans of western verse and song."

Our thanks to Pete and Virginia Bennett for their generous donations.
