Rope Burns, published six times a year, reports news from the "Cowboy Entertainment and Trade Industry."

In addition to event, gathering, music, and festival listings for the US and Canada, it includes features and reports about Cowboy Poetry gatherings and Western festivals, chuckwagon cook-offs, gear makers, ranch rodeos, Western Music, book and recording reviews, Cowboy Poetry, and news from the Academy of Western Artists and other organizations. Rope Burns includes Western music charts, display ads, and a directory of organizations.

Every issue features Voleta Hummel's Western Music Calendar, and there are regular columns including O. J. Sikes' "O. J. Corral"; "Mad" Jack Hanks' "Tales from the O-NO Ranch"; editor Bobby Newton's "Kicking Around"; vet David Carlton's "Hey Doc"; R. Wayne Clemm's "Ask the Wheelwright"; and each issue includes a column from CowboyPoetry.com, "Cowboy Poetry at the BAR-D Ranch," with poetry selections.
