About this site
Give us a holler
Welcome folks, with the best of the season's greetin's from all of us here at the BAR-D.
We kept Christmas every day in December, 'til Christmas, with somethin' new each and every day.
Along with our daily additions, there was plenty more holiday news and features listed below.
See our Countdown to 2002 collection of New Year poems here.
Our new book, The Big Roundup, is the perfect gift for everyone on your list, or for yourself.
Preview The Big Roundup here. There's order info here.
"An entertaining and heartwarming collection of modern
and classic Cowboy Poetry. A wonderful treasury,
including many of my favorites." Don Edwards"The Big Roundup is an important addition to help to keep the cowboy in the cowboy heritage movement. The book and CowboyPoetry.com are great resources for Western entertainment."
Bobby Newton, Editor and Publisher of Rope Burns; Director of The Academy of Western Artists
"My husband and I had plans for the evening but our copy of The Big Roundup came in the mail and all plans were forgotten. We stayed up into the wee hours of the night reading to each other from this wonderful book. We couldn't put it down. Each poem brought tears, chuckles, memories for both of us. We hadn't read to each other like that in all the years we've been together. Not only is The Big Roundup the best book we've read but you can now say that it brings families closer together."
Jo Hargrave, radio host of Keepin' it Cowboy, KJON 850
"The Big Roundup is one of the best gatherings of classic and contemporary cowboy poetry to come out of the chute in a long time. A must have for every cowboy poetry fan!"
Andy Hedges, AWA-nominated Cowboy Poet, musician, and performer; Days and Nights in the Saddle
"A fine combination of classics and classics to be."
Wylie Gustafson of Wylie and the Wild West, Western music maker, songwriter, and top yodeler; Paradise

Jo Hargrave's Keepin' It Cowboy radio program had its second annual Christmas call-in show on Saturday, December 22, 2001. Jo
had Lariat Laureate Jay Snider, Honored Guest Debra Hill, and old pard Tim Graham (all featured in The Big Roundup) in her studio, and there were plenty of great call-ins with poetry and music. Stay tuned for information about how to get tapes.
"Cowboy Jim" Packard had a Public Radio call-in radio show Thursday, December 20 on the Ideas Network. Last year Mrs. Claus read Omar's Anna Claus. This year Omar did his Friends, and Jim Packard did his The Nightingale and read Arthur Chapman's Out Where the West Begins (all included in The Big Roundup) and Margo Metegrano, editor of The Big Roundup, chimed in. **Shoppin' with our Pards**
Did you get a copy of The Big Roundup for all your pards and kin? If they've been good, why not keep shoppin' then with our pards:
- Linda Kirkpatrick's book, Somewhere in the West, has just been published by Cowboy Miner. She tells us it is "a collection of poems that I have written and the research behind them. It also has a few ghost stories, some stories of my family and a recipe or two." (Read more here on the page with her poetry here at the BAR-D). Linda drew the cover art (click above for a larger image) and the book's illustrations. You can order the book directly from Linda Kirkpatrick, PO Box 128, Leakey, Texas 78873 ($12.95 plus $3.00 shipping and handling for the first book, and $1.00 for each additional book). You can also contact Linda Kirkpatrick by email.
Our old pard Scott Hill Bumgardner has a brand new CD. He gave us the following description: "Texas Legacies consist of 17 tracks of stories and original poetry about Texas and the cowboy. Beginning with the Texas Revolution and marching into the cowboy era, this album celebrates our Texas legacies. Listen to this CD to remember the battle for the Alamo and the winning of Texas independence at San Jacinto. Enjoy the stories and verse of bad cattle, bad horses, and reflect on the wonders of God's creations." (Read more here on the page with his poetry here at the BAR-D). The CD is available at Scott's web site for $15, tax and shipping included.
Visit the Cowboy Christmas Shop at SilverCreek Cowboy, one of our own favorite places. Check out their complete selection of Cowboy books and music, including those from our BAR-D pards Tim Graham; Lariat Laureate runners up David Kelley, Francine Roark Robison, and Hal Swift; Fifth Lariat Laureate Jay Snider, and our Honored Guest Buckshot Dot.
Over at Cowboy Miner, they have some great Holiday Specials. They publish some of the finest books of western verse, includin' collections of S. Omar Barker, Herbert Henry Knibbs, D. J. O'Malley, Larry McWhorter, Duke Davis, and Chris Isaacs. Their Bruce Kiskaddon calendar is the only known publication in print with Kiskaddon's poetry. Cowboy Miner also has CDs with sound clips. Go on over and have a sample.
Over at Honored Guest Buckshot Dot's Holiday Mercantile, prices are 25% off until January 1. Don't miss the opportunity to get her CDs and tapes, her books, and cards with her strikin' art.
And we've got a whole lot of books and music on our own BAR-D
Books and Music page right here.
**More Ideas for Gettin' and Givin'**

More Christmas Links
Some outstandin' general Christmas sites
The fine and dedicated folks at My Merry Christmas tell us "Our sole mission is to promote the goodwill of the season" and they do just that. You'll find a Christmas countdown, stories, songs and their histories, traditions, legends, daily North Pole updates, and even "hope for the naughty" who are seekin' to get back on the right side of Santy.
New December 9th: Our new pards at My Merry Christmas have a mighty nice story about the BAR-D, which includes Omar's Anna Claus and links to a few of their favorite Christmas poems from the BAR-D, including those by Jay Snider, Don Gregory, and Paul Hatch.
Ride on over to ChristmasStories.com, "Where miracles happen and dreams come true." Chip Ciammaichella's mighty entertainin' site has his own stories (which, he tells us "are set in my adopted hometown of Raton, New Mexico, where I spent 10 years cowboying...") poetry, music, crafts, games, classic tales, and more.
