Dry Crik Review of Contemporary Cowboy Poetry was an innovative periodical edited by John Dofflemyer and published by his Dry Crik Press in Lemon Cove, California, from 1991-1994. Each issue notes that it is "Dedicated to the well-crafted and artful insights of a disappearing breed of men and women." Dry Crik Review sparked some controversy by publishing free verse along with traditional rhyming forms. In late 2005, editor John
Dofflemyer made a "lost issue" of Dry Crik Review
available through his
blog
at the Western Folklife
Center web site. Read the entire issue at the Western Folklife
web site
here
(it is included in the index below). The blog
Below is a collective index of authors, poems, and prose. There are also individual indexes for each issue:
Our Anthology Index includes many books and some periodicals. Along with current, popular cowboy poetry anthologies, there are many out-of-print and hard-to-find anthologies, and we plan to add additional books . There is a list of all indexed books and a master index of poets here. Poets in periodicals currently are not included in the master index. As we add to this project, we welcome your suggestions for publications to include. Please email us with your comments.
Our thanks to Dry Crik Review's editor John Dofflemyer, to poet Virginia Bennett for the early loan of many of these issues, to poet Gene O'Quinn for preparing some of these indexes.
