Dry Crik Review of Contemporary Cowboy Poetry, an innovative periodical edited by John Dofflemyer and published by his Dry Crik Press in Lemon Cove, California, appeared in print format from 1991-1994.

Dry Crik Review resumed publishing on the internet in 2010 at www.drycrikreview.com. Read more about that below.

The following and the indexes on this page refer to the print version.

Each issue notes that it is "Dedicated to the well-crafted and artful insights of a disappearing breed of men and women."

Dry Crik Review sparked some controversy by publishing free verse along with traditional rhyming forms.

In late 2005, editor John Dofflemyer made a "lost issue" of Dry Crik Review available through his blog at the Western Folklife Center web site.  Read the entire issue at the Western Folklife web site here (it is included in the index below). The blog also has a list of available back issues.

Below is a collective index of authors, poems, and prose.

There are also individual indexes for each issue:

Winter 1991  Vol 1, No 1
Spring 1991  Vol 1, No 2
Summer 1991  Vol 1, No 3
Fall 1991  Vol 1, No 4

Winter 1992  Vol 2, No 1
Spring 1992  Vol 2, No 2
Summer 1992 Vol 2, No 3

Fall 1992 Vol 2, No 4 & Winter 1993  Vol 3, No 1
     (double issue)
Spring 1993  Vol 3, No 2
Summer 1993  Vol 3, No 3 & Fall 1993  Vol 3, No 4
     (double issue)
Winter 1994 Vol 4, No 1 & Spring 1994 Vol 4, No 2

(double issue)

Winter-Spring 2006 Volume 5, No 1 and No 2 ("lost issue")

2010

The new electronic issue of Dry Crik Review (Volume VI—2010) includes works by Joel Nelson, Sylvia Ross, Paul Zarzyski, Laurie Wagner Buyer, Charles Potts, Matthew Rangel, Amy Hale Auker, Linda M. Hasselstrom, Andy Wilkinson, Ted Waddell, Trudy Wischemann, and Linda Hussa.

The Dry Crik Review web site states that it aims to be "an eclectic site that offers poetry, prose and potentially other mediums and forms of art from rural cultures, with particular prejudice for contemporary expression from the American West." Currently, unsolicited submissions are not accepted.

Read the entire new issue at www.drycrikreview.com.

Our Anthology Index includes many books and some periodicals. Along with current, popular cowboy poetry anthologies, there are many out-of-print and hard-to-find anthologies, and we plan to add additional books .

There is a list of all indexed books and a master index of poets here.  Poets in periodicals currently are not included in the master index.

As we add to this project, we welcome your suggestions for publications to include. Please email us with your comments.

Our thanks to Dry Crik Review's editor John Dofflemyer, to poet Virginia Bennett for the early loan of many of these issues, to poet Gene O'Quinn for preparing some of these indexes.

See our feature about John Dofflemyer, which includes some of his poetry, here.
