COWBOY MAGAZINE is a quarterly publication dedicated to promoting and preserving the lifestyle of ranchers and cowboys. It is "by, for, and about the working ranch cowboy." Each issue contains contemporary and historic articles about cowboying, as well as supporting articles about cowboy craftsmen saddlemakers, bitmakers, spurmakers, hitchers, braiders, silversmiths, and so forth.

While the magazine will, from time to time, present articles about issues facing ranchers, the thrust of the magazine is primarily entertainment. Most of the articles tell how cowboying is or used to be done, and much of it is told from the humorous perspective of the working ranch cowboy.

COWBOY MAGAZINE also features some cowboy poetry, as well as reviews of cowboy music, cowboy poetry, and books of interest to cowboy-oriented people.

The COWBOY MAGAZINE web site includes cowboy poetry and additional features.

One-year subscriptions to COWBOY MAGAZINE are $20.

Excerpted from COWBOY MAGAZINE's Writers' Guidelines:

COWBOY MAGAZINE is a publication about the cowboy lifestyle. Articles and photographs must depict the authentic cowboy and western way of life. Though a large percentage  of our readers are not real cowboys, we have the respect and interest of the working  cowboy. A working cowboy can spot a phony, and so can we. We are not another  horse magazine. We do run articles that have to do with horses, but we are a magazine about people, sort of a "People" magazine for cowboys. We don't want articles on horse  care, horse training, or horse shows. We want articles about people who exemplify the cowboy lifestyle.

The stories we want the most are stories about working cowboys and ranchers. Tell us what they are doing day to day. Next, we like good saddlemakers, braiders, hitchers, etc. We use stories about cowboy artists and sculptors, and western musicians and singers, though these categories of stories seem to come to us in an overabundance. We like stories about western movie actors--primarily if they are also cowboys in their spare time. Such men as Richard Farnsworth, Ben Johnson, and Wilford Brimley draw our interest. We like stories about the western movie industry and about western stuntmen. We like true adventures about old time or modern cowboys. Stories about what really happens out there.

Articles should be 1,200 words or less and accompanied by good photographs, cartoons or drawings.

Photographs should be sharp, glossy black-and-white or color prints. Please do not send transparencies. Cover photographs and artwork must be scheduled a year in advance, and almost always deal directly with a feature story in that issue.

If your story idea and photographs will interest the working cowboy, it will interest COWBOY MAGAZINE.

We prefer not to print material that has already run in other publications. Do not submit material that has been previously or simultaneously submitted to another publication.
